LaVonia joined the Rennie Center with a background in counseling and human development as well as psychology. She earned her M. Ed. in Developmental Studies from Boston University and B.S. in Psychology from Davidson College. As a graduate student, LaVonia focused on social emotional development in youth populations and worked as a research assistant, where she studied career development and motivation in elementary age students. LaVonia also served as one of the coordinators for the Boston University Initiative for Literacy Development helping to provide academic tutors to Boston Public Schools. As an undergraduate, she explored the application of cognitive psychology research on the classroom experience and learning process. LaVonia continues to be invested in enhancing the learning experience through the application of research to practice with a specific focus on social emotional development.
