More than 300 people have already registered to attend, said Jennifer Armini, spokeswoman for MassINC, the lead sponsor of the event titled, "No Child Left Behind: Opportunity or Obstacle for Massachusetts Education Reform."
"The response has been overwhelming," Armini said.

"This is a critical issue for every state, but Massachusetts, I think, in particular, because we are already in the middle of a very serious education reform," Armini said. "I think it's important that we talk about how the national mandates are going to impact what we're already doing."

Jack Jennings, founder and director of the Center on Education Policy in Washington, D.C., is the keynote speaker.

Armini said Jennings will talk about a major national report released this month called "From the Capitol to the Classroom: State and Federal Efforts to Implement the No Child Left Behind Act."
The authors of the report, compiled by the Center on Education Policy, traveled to every state to see how school districts are adjusting to the new federal mandate. Jennings will discuss its results and the panel discussion will bring the national findings to a local level, Armini said.
