The adoption of the Common Core State Standards signifies a fundamental, but not often publicized, shift in objective for public education. While the goal of the previous Massachusetts State Curriculum Frameworks was to ensure students’ proficiency in specific disciplines, the goal of the new Common Core State Standards is to ensure that all students are college- and career-ready. Yet, to date, there has been no clear, statewide definition of college- and career-readiness. This forum will explore the questions: What does college- and career-ready mean? How will readiness be determined and what criteria will be used to assess readiness? What other initiatives and programs will complement the new standards and assessments to ensure a reduction in college remediation rates?

Join us for the third in a three-part series exploring the implementation of the Common Core State Standards in Massachusetts.

Coffee and registration will begin at 8:00 am, and the program will begin promptly at 8:20 am.
