Program and Events Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION:  The role of the Program and Events Assistant is to assist the Rennie Center staff with events coordination and special projects, as assigned. Event support will entail, but not be limited to: helping to develop and coordinate marketing, publicity and registration materials, coordinating event logistics, audio-visual needs and site details, assisting speakers and panelists as needed, and overseeing post event follow-up. In addition, the Program and Events Assistant will support the Rennie Center staff with: outreach projects, research-related project work, media relations and external communications projects. The Program and Events Assistant will serve as the office manager and be responsible for maintaining relationships with vendors, updating the Rennie Center’s website and processing check requests for payments and invoices. The Program and Events Assistant will also provide administrative support to the Executive Director of the Rennie Center, as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:  Successful candidates must possess:

  • excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • strong verbal and written communication skills (including grammar)
  • the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
     a bachelor’s degree
  • excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint
  • non-profit experience and/or background in K-12 education is preferred

HOURS: Part-time, 20-25 hours per week

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Commensurate with experience

Internships
Internships at the Rennie Center enable students to participate in research and policy work pertaining to K-12 education reform in Massachusetts. Tasks may include conducting computer-assisted research at our office, retrieving data at area libraries, organizing and staffing Center events and convenings, working with staff in gathering information by phone, and monitoring a range of newspapers and other publications from around the state and country.

Graduate students and undergraduate students in their last years of study are encouraged to apply. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
